Blood Work Q & A

What is blood work?

Blood work is a diagnostic tool Holly at HAR Wellness uses to assess your health. Based on the results of your blood work, Holly can help you either maintain or improve your health.

There are many types of blood tests Holly may recommend to gather more information about your health, such as a basic wellness panel and hormone check. She determines the most appropriate tests for you during your consultation.

What is a basic wellness panel?

The basic wellness panel is a screening tool Holly uses to get a general picture of your health. The basic wellness panel may include:

Complete blood count (CBC)

The CBC is a routine test that looks for signs of anemia, infection, and immune system disorders by measuring the various components of your blood, such as your platelets, red blood cells, and white blood cells.

Basic metabolic profile (BMP)

The BMP measures various chemicals and components in your blood to assess organ function and look for diseases. Your BMP may look at your blood glucose level, as well as your electrolytes, such as potassium and sodium.

Lipid profile

The lipid profile is used to test the amount of fat in your blood and specifically measures cholesterol and triglyceride levels. The lipid profile is used to assess heart health and risk of heart disease.

Holly may also test other components of your blood, such as your protein status or blood clotting factors to get a general sense of your overall wellness.

How do my hormones affect my health?

Your hormones serve as your body’s messaging system. Created in the glands that make up your endocrine system, hormones regulate many important body functions, including the rate of your heartbeat, body temperature, and libido. A change in hormone levels can lead to a variety of symptoms.

If you come in to see Holly at HAR Wellness with complaints of fatigue, irritability, or difficulty losing weight, she may recommend blood work to assess your hormone levels, including your thyroid and sex hormones.

If your hormone levels are out of balance, she may recommend hormone replacement therapy to optimize health and relieve your symptoms.
